Recommended search tools and strategies for finding, using, and citing images in your academic work.

Image from a library database:

  • TEMPLATE: Creator, A. (Year). Title of image [Type]. Retrieved from database.
  • EXAMPLE: Raine, A. (2009). Finest work yet [Photograph]. Retrieved from JSTOR.

Image from the web:

  • TEMPLATE: Creator, A. (Year). Title of image [Type]. Retrieved from URL

Image from a printed source:

Image without creator or title:

  • Template: [Type and brief description of work]. Retrieved from URL/Database
  • EXAMPLE: [Photograph of soldier in the woods]. Retrieved from https://www.indiewire.com/2016/11/movie-accent-expert-breaks-down-accuracy-actors-roles-video-1201748151/ 
Remember to include as much information as you can and provide a citation, even with limited source info, for every image you use.
