Faculty Guide

Librarians at IU Kokomo are available to collaborate on information literacy instruction, research, and the selection of materials to support the curriculum, including OER textbooks, peer-reviewed journals, ebooks, monographs, streaming videos, and more.

Best practices for sharing library resources online

1. PERMALINK

Locate the permalink (sometimes called a permanent link, persistent link, or PURL) to articles, videos, ebooks, and more to be sure that the student can easily access resources once they have signed in with DUO. To ensure that the link will function regardless of student location, look for the proxy prefix at the beginning of the link: "https://proxyko.uits.iu.edu/login?url=". 2. CITATION

Copy and paste the citation to the source. This not only reinforces the importance of citation and helps to familiarize students with citation styles but also gives them the information required to track down the source should the permalink not function correctly.

3. DIRECTIONS

Provide simple directions on how to navigate to the database in which students can search for and locate the source. For example:

"From the library home page, go to the Databases A - Z Quick Link and find the database called CINAHL Ultimate with Full Text. Use the citation information to locate the source here."
