The Indiana University Kokomo Library seeks an energetic, collaborative and innovative librarian to provide leadership for the Library’s digital services, including electronic resources and web content. This entry-level, tenure-track position has primary responsibility for the continued development and assessment of the Library’s digital resources collection and web presence, and liaison responsibilities for the School of Nursing and the Division of Allied Health Sciences. The Digital Services Librarian is responsible for activating, troubleshooting and maintaining access for the Library’s electronic resources; maintaining the Library’s website; promoting digital resources and supporting Library information technology. Departmental liaison activities include all aspects of teaching, learning and research support for assigned areas.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

ELECTRONIC RESOURCES & TECHNOLOGY

Coordinate and provide leadership for the acquisition, discovery, and maintenance of electronic resources; streamline access to these resources.

  • Negotiate pricing, manage licensing and documentation for electronic resources/databases.
  • Administer an Electronic Resources Management system, related instructional guides and other files as necessary to organize electronic resources data.
  • Work with publishers, vendors and the Technical Services team to acquire, activate, deactivate, maintain and troubleshoot digital resources.
  • Provide leadership to identify, evaluate, develop, deploy and manage emerging technologies to support library services.
  • Serve as library technology administrator. Activate, maintain and troubleshoot library software and mobile services.
  • Obtain and compile usage statistics for electronic resources and provide analysis pertaining to their usage and cost per use.
  • Maintain Exlibris 360 Solutions (formerly Serials Solutions), including uploading and maintaining print serial holdings, and maintain link resolver.
  • Investigate new electronic products, including setting up trials and assessments.
  • Evaluate and implement user interface options for digital resources.
  • Serve as the electronic resources contact for questions that pertain to the digital collection. Serve as the Kokomo Library representative on IU Libraries electronic resources-related committees.
  • Work with IU Bloomington Library Technologies personnel to support and administer OCLC EZproxy for authenticated remote access to electronic resources.
  • Coordinate and oversee electronic resources activities of the Technical Services Assistant, a Part-Time Library Assistant, and a student assistant (as available).
  • Coordinate cataloging of electronic resources.
  • Maintain a link resolver, OpenURLs, and metasearch tools to facilitate system interoperations and resource discovery.
  • Assess the user experience and usability of digital resources.

WEB PRESENCE

Provide leadership for the Library web presence. Offer support for integrating information literacy principles into web content about library services and resources.

  • Serve as the Library Web manager. Work with Library faculty and staff, and University Information Technology Services (UITS) staff to maintain and enhance the Library website.
  • Work with UITS to make all webpages and electronic resources accessible to persons with disabilities.
  • Develop and manage the Library website within the campus content management system. Maintain familiarity with HTML, CSS, and other programming languages as necessary to facilitate website improvements.
  • Work with Library faculty to integrate tutorials, research guides, and other instructional tools into the Library web presence.
  • Work with Library faculty and staff to enhance the online presence of the Library within the campus course management system and other campus portals.
  • Assess the user experience and usability of Library Web properties.
  • Serve as the campus library liaison for IU ScholarWorks, the institutional repository.

LIAISON

  • Provide reference service to students, faculty, staff, and the IU Kokomo service area at the Research Help Desk, by telephone, e-mail, and chat.
  • Provide specialized, discipline-specific research support for students and faculty in assigned liaison areas, including by-appointment consultations.
  • Teach information literacy online and face-to-face, for general education and assigned liaison areas, with an emphasis on research skills and source evaluation.
  • Work with faculty in liaison areas to develop collections that support faculty teaching and student learning.  Manage collections by selecting and deselecting monographs and continuing resources based on Library and curriculum needs.

OTHER

  • Contribute to the development of library policies, procedures, and goals.
  • Participate in Library faculty and Library staff meetings.
  • As a member of the Indiana University Kokomo faculty and a representative of the Library, participate in campus and university faculty committees and functions.
  • Maintain an active research agenda leading to publications and presentations.
  • Maintain currency in the field of academic librarianship and digital services.
  • Participate in activities and events that promote the Library’s growth and services.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • MLS/MIS/MLIS or equivalent degree from an ALA accredited institution
  • At least one year of post-MLS work experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of web content management systems
  • Knowledge of web design tools (HTML, CSS and JavaScript), accessibility standards and user-centered design principles
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Experience providing online and in-person reference support and information literacy instruction
  • Commitment to inclusion with an understanding of the library needs of a diverse community
  • Demonstrated ability to work productively, independently and collaboratively
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
  • Collegial attitude and enthusiasm for innovation
  • Commitment to professional development, research and service in order to meet the requirements for tenure and promotion
  • Availability for occasional evening and weekend work

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional experience with digital resources in an academic library
  • Knowledge of contract and license interpretation, including fair use and copyright
  • Familiarity with Springshare software and applications
  • Knowledge of OCLC Connexion, SirsiDynixWorkflows
  • Knowledge of EZproxy, SUSHI, EDI, Counter and OpenURL/z39.50
  • Experience with vendor (e.g., EBSCO) and knowledge base (e.g., ExLibris 360) administration interfaces
  • Familiarity with social media platforms
  • Supervisory experience
  • Second master’s degree
