Government Documents Research Guide

Use this LibGuide to find government document resources available at the IU Kokomo Library.

Background Information

"Free access to government information for all."

This statement is the basis of the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) which started in 1813 after a joint resolution was passed in Congress. The Federal Depository Program is administered through the Government Publishing Office known as GPO. The IU Kokomo Library joined the FDLP as a selective depository in 1969. As a depository the library houses many essential government documents as well as providing discoverability and access to the government documents online.  The documents include books, microfiche, CDs, DVDs, videos, maps, and websites. Library use is not restricted and materials are made available for use by the general public at no cost.

Government Publishing Office Partnerships

The Government Publishing Office enters into partnerships to enhance delivery of valuable information.

Generally, partnerships with Federal agencies and Federal depository libraries provide the following benefits:

  • Permanent public access to electronic content that GPO does not provide.
  • Access to services that allow Federal depository libraries to enhance their collections.
  • Access to services and resources that connect the public to its Government's information.
  • Access to resources that assist Federal depository libraries to manage their collections.
